Millbank Rowing Club
Volunteer-run rowing on the river, welcoming beginners to veterans since 1954
A club on the river since 1954
Millbank Rowing Club sits on a quiet stretch of river just outside town, and has been home to rowers of all ages and abilities for seventy years. Today we have around 140 members — from juniors learning to scull, to seniors training for races, to the Sunday-morning recreational squad that just wants a good row and a coffee afterwards.
Everything we do is run by volunteers: our coaches, our boat captains, the people who look after the clubhouse, and the crew who organize our events. There's always room for another pair of hands, whether you want to pull an oar or help out on shore.
Something for every rower
Juniors
Young rowers aged 8–18, learning technique, building confidence, and racing where they want to. Coached every session.
Seniors
Competitive rowers racing at regattas across the region. Training sessions on weekday evenings and Saturday mornings.
Recreational
Sunday mornings on the water, casual pace, no pressure — come once or come every week. This is the heartbeat of the club.
New to rowing? Start here
We run a learn-to-row course twice a year for complete beginners — no experience needed. You'll learn on the water with our coaches, and by the end of four weeks you'll be ready to row with the club.
Sign up for the next learn-to-row course (Spring or Autumn).
Four weeks of coaching on the water, once or twice a week.
Join the club (membership runs April–March) and start rowing with your squad.
Boat use and coaching included in your membership fee.
On the water and in the clubhouse
Rowing is the main thing, but it's not the only thing. The club hosts two regattas each summer — a chance for our crews to race, and a day out for families and supporters. The clubhouse opens for socials throughout the year: post-row coffees, club suppers, and the occasional celebration when someone wins a medal.
